Mount Laurel, NJ, MAY 15, 2007
The
Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA) is paying
tribute to the brave men and women who have given their
lives while serving as members of America's armed forces
by encouraging all citizens to fly the American flag in
observance of Memorial Day, May 28.
Memorial Day is a sacred day reserved for the remembrance
of those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.
Towns hold parades honoring the fallen, veterans gather
for Memorial Day speeches and services, and Americans take
pride in decorating the graves of those fallen with flowers
and flags.
In observance of Memorial Day, May 28,
FMAA recommends that all U.S. citizens:
- Fly the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon
- Fly the 'POW/MIA Flag' as well
- Visit cemeteries and place flags or flowers on the
graves of our fallen heroes
- Visit memorials
- Participate in a “National Moment of Remembrance" at
3:00 PM to pause and think upon the true meaning of the
day
- Renew a pledge to aid those affected by our fallen
heroes, and to aid disabled veterans
“We are forever grateful to the men and women who
have died to protect us, and honor their memory on Memorial
Day especially, as well as throughout the year,” commented
Sandy Van Lieu, FMAA Chairman. “We call upon
all citizens to fly the American flag as an expression
of gratitude and respect, and in support of the men and
women who continue to fight the war on terror.”
Although not official until June 21, Memorial Day typically
marks the beginning of the summer, and a string of patriotic
holidays. With Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Independence
Day all within a few short weeks of each other, summer
is prime time for flying the flag. According to
a recent study, 62% of the US population has a US Flag
in their household, 45% of people who have a flag display
it daily, and only 32% fly it only on designated holidays.
Before hanging Old Glory for all to see, FMAA encourages
citizens to be sure it truly is an American flag. U.S.
law requires every flag be labeled with its “country
of origin.” Those designated as "Made
in USA" may indeed be true to their name, however
only those bearing the FMAA Certification seal are guaranteed
to adhere to the standards and continued compliance as
monitored by a professional association and its domestic
members.
The Flag Manufacturers Association of America is a non-profit
trade association, established in 2003, dedicated to educating
and promoting the quality, variety, and proper use of flags
manufactured in the United States.
